Celebrating New Year in London
On holiday in London over the New Year? Thinking about taking a New Year break? London is definitely a fantastic place to celebrate the New Year in a very memorable fashion. There are dramatic fireworks, the unique chimes of Big Ben, parties, parades. The hardest part is choosing!
Many Londoners have gathered for years in Trafalgar Square, in a very good humoured party atmosphere ready to see the New Year in. As Big Ben’s chimes ring out, everyone links hands and sings Auld Lang Syne.
This is now somewhat overshadowed by the dramatic burst of fireworks ushering in the New Year from the vicinity of the London Eye. Although tickets have sold out for the festivities on the South Bank, the fireworks can still be enjoyed. Find a viewpoint along the river bank, on one of the many bridges crossing the River Thames or in Parliament Square and watch the colourful display highlighting Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.
Alternatively you could book a New Years Eve cruise with City Cruises complete with food, drink and music, while watching the fireworks from the river itself. Equally good dining locations to gain a good view of the New Year Pyrotechnics include the Shard, Smith & Wollensky, and the Oxo Tower.
If you’re staying at the Presidential Marylebone Mayfair and Prefer a party? Why not welcome in the New Year amid the stylish surroundings of Bourne & Hollingsworth. They have three themed parties to choose from: Blitz, Prohibition or Dark Circus. You could join the Carnivale at Battersea Evolution for a lively, colourful New Years Ball or take to the floor for a dance at the Natural History Museum’s New Year’s Eve Ball.
Alternatively, book a stay at Serviced Apartments Mayfair and search out the special themed nights which are being held in pubs, clubs and bars throughout London. Typical examples include the Great Gatesby Casino at Somers Town Coffee House, and Icebar’s 1920’s party. At the Royal Festival Hall, you can enjoy a very stylish retro party atmosphere with areas offering music from different periods such as the 1960’s themed The Pick Up Joint, the Torch Club for 1930’s and 1940’s, or the Style Studio for 1970’s and 1980’s disco. If you prefer soul, then head over to the Bussey Building in Peckham for a night to remember. Or you can reach for the skies at the View from the Shard where there is a major New Year party within the spectacular viewing galleries – ensuring a perfect view of the fireworks.
The fun doesn’t end there. New Year’s Day has become a major attraction in London with the massive New Year’s Day parade around the streets of Central London. This is one of the biggest in the world, attracting more than 8,000 performers representing all the London boroughs as well as countries from around the world. It is guaranteed to be spectacular while a resident at one of the many beautiful Serviced Apartments Central London. Get there early to find a good spot, and come prepared for a long wait as the procession is a very long one with dancers, cheerleaders, historic vehicles, marching bands and much, much more.
