Held at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea; Masterpiece is an incomparable art fair. On display will be over 160 exhibitors from all over the world with objects ranging from furniture to rare books, coins to paintings and sculpture as well as treasures from the ancient past. Exhibitors include Hauser & Worth, Agnews, Landou Fine Art, Robiliant & Voena and the Hammer Galleries.
Every item on display is of museum quality and is superb examples of sheer craftsmanship. Not surprisingly, it attracts huge numbers of visitors; a lot of tourists are expected to stay in London with many booking rooms at self-serviced apartments London. Over 40,000 people are expected to visit Masterpiece between 27 June and 4th July.
Many will be coming to buy as they are keen collectors. Others will be there to learn, and see items that may never appear again in public. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Among the items known to be on display are paintings by Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet and Camille Pissarro. There is also a special celebration of the work of Britain’s greatest furniture maker, Thomas Chippendale, for this is the tercentenary of his birth. Over 20 very special items will be on display for all to see. Other displays include beautiful examples of medieval and renaissance jewellery, and contemporary pieces by Boghossian, Cindy Chao and Van Cleef & Arpels. Elsewhere in the exhibition are incredible clocks and watches, beautiful porcelain, modern Aboriginal Art.
This is where you can learn from the acknowledged experts as many of the exhibitors will be holding complimentary stand talks, each lasting around 15 minutes, on different aspects of their displays. Equally fascinating are the 30 minute tours around the Fair, highlighting key objects across varying time periods. These tours are being given by academics and graduates from the Sotheby’s Institute of Art.
