The Best Hot Chocolate Spots in London

Hot Chocolate

What better for a cold winter’s day than a delicious hot chocolate? Instantly warming and energy giving ready for more exploration of London’s many attractions; a cup of hot chocolate is instantly appealing.  But where do you go to find the best offerings?  Here are some of the best to be found in London.

Head upstairs at the lively Choccywoccydoodah store in Fouberts Place, Carnaby Street for a hot chocolate to die for! Not too far from beautiful Presidential Marylebone Mayfair and within easy walking distance of Oxford Street, it makes a wonderful stopping off place for a break during a shopping spree.  Admittedly it is hard to resist the temptation of buying some chocolate as you enter this Willy Wonka style store, but once you reach the bar du chocolate, it is really worth the trip.  This is hot chocolate to delight and inspire.  Choose from dark, milk or white variations topped with mounds of marshmallows and lashing of cream together with chocolate straw.  At busy times, be prepared to queue as this is an extremely popular venue.

Create your own takeaway version at Paul A Young’s Fine Chocolates in Wardour Street, Soho while a resident at any of the affordable serviced apartments London.  Don’t expect to find any dairy products being used here  - this is a drink made without milk.  In fact, it has been described as being close to an original Aztec style drink.  At this boutique chocolate company, a pot bubbles permanently away in the window of the store containing a deep purplish brown liquid made from 100% Valrhona cocoa powder, 70% chocolate and a little light muscavado sugar.  Drink just as it is, or add a spice or two to give it your special touch such as cardamon or sumac.

How about trying Death by Chocolate? This unusual combination of white and black chocolate marshmallows that positively melt into the milk can be found at Artisan du Chocolat in Chelsea.  Hot chocolate from this company has gained considerable popularity having been named the best in London, year after year.  The varieties are all too numerous such as Salted Caramel and Vegetarian Mallow.

Brick Lane offers two fascinating venues.  Expect quirky and different when you enter the Cereal Killer Café as it feels like you step back into childhood dreams. This is where you can enjoy an extremely sweet hot chocolate topped with lucky charms cereal marshmallow.  Alternatively book a stay at any of the holiday apartments London and head down the street to the aromatic premises of Dark Chocolate where luscious Ghanaian chocolate beans are used to create very special tasty drinks such as white chocolate, caramel and chilli cocoa.

Further north in Camden Lock, search out the idiosyncratic Chin Chin Laboratories.  This is where you can find not just hot chocolate but also nitrogen ice cream and unusual, very tempting desserts! It has been described as looking a bit like a mad scientists laboratory.  Drinking hot chocolate becomes an experience where you can expect the unexpected such as hot chocolate with torched marshmallows!
